31 Day Challenge- Home Again

The most exciting part about finishing our garage is the fact that we are going to be able to park in it. For the 8 years we've lived here, we have used the garage as a junk yard and storage unit of sorts. Purging all the things we don't need and the things we can't use anymore has been quite relieving and given me such a freedom and motivation I did not anticipate. For the first time, I can see myself enjoying the idea of staying home. Some of you may not understand these feelings, but I haven't felt like I've wanted to be home for the sake of comfort and refuge, but more for the sake of getting my to-do list completed. Now though, I feel excited to be home because I'm enjoying the creative possibilities as well as feeling like things are actually manageable, if not just comfortable. We are on the tail end of the garage part of the project, and there has been much satisfaction it's completion. Since we will be parking in there, I wanted to put a fun message of greeting on the door leading into the house upon return each day. I found a myriad of  ideas on pinterest.

I wanted it to be fun and welcoming, yet child and family oriented. Then I found myself reciting an old nursery rhyme I used to read to my oldest son.

So then it came to me what our message would be. So I got out my Cricut and made a stencil using the Jasmine cartridge. I cut out the message in vinyl. This was not only a good idea because of the strength of the vinyl as a stencil form, but also for the areas that needed an insert like the "e", "t", and lower case "j". You can just peel and stick the vinyl to the inside of the letter where needed. After the paint is somewhat dry, you just peel off the sticky insert and it's perfect.

This is my favorite part of the rhyme. Totally like me to say something like that.
My whole family loves it and it is fun to run into each time we come through the door!
How about you? What would your message be?

I can't wait to share with you the whole door once I have the new knob and wreath in place. I'd say it's coming a long happily.
I'm enjoying my journey.

  1. I love it!!! What happy and fun words to greet you as you come home! I do understand what you mean about being at home, often it has been the reason I was here, to get things done. Home should be more than that. Can't wait to see the door! Happy that you have enjoyed this journey, it has been a pleasure to read about!
