Weathered Coat Rack

Last week I shared my old window with you. Remember where it ended up? Right above my new weathered coat rack? Yeah, so I wanted to tell you about that today!
Although I've really loved having our chalkboard in the entryway, I found a new home for it because my family had the need for some coat hooks to hang things on when coming in from outside.

A few weeks ago I found this great listing on the "free" postings on Craigslist in a town about 1/2 an hour from here. So after dropping my daughter off at preschool, I drove down, only to be a bit too late. The things that had caught my eye were already taken. Of course. I don't know why I thought they wouldn't be, but I was willing to take my chances. I was happy, however to still leave with a few things others didn't find so valuable. Apparently someone was cleaning out all that had been left behind in this house she was getting ready to sell. One of those "not so valuable" things was a very long weathered board. I was thrilled! It was just right for what I was wanting to do.
So first I used my stud finder to figure out where all the studs were.
I installed the board to go the full width of the wall, placing a drywall screw into each stud.
Then I used some hooks I bought from Ebay, installing them 10" in from the outsides and 1/2" down from the upper edge. Then I measured from coat hook to coat hook and divided it in half to determine where I would hang the third hook. After installing that one, I added two more hooks in the center of the middle hook and the outside hooks. (Confused yet?!)This made the hooks evenly spaced.
Now it's not only the perfect place to hang things as we walk in the door, but it will be perfect for hanging wet towels on during the summer months.
Perfect!? I hope so. ;)

  1. Such a lovely piece of aged wood and it totally rocks that you got it for free! I just love when a piece in a home is beautiful, but also serves a practical function!
