I am so happy to be sharing this project with you today for our Furniture Refresh Challenge!! You know what that means, you get to see not only my before and afters, but all my wonderful buddy's as well! Don't you love a bonus?!
Seriously, I have been working on this baby for months now. I bought it from a guy on Craigslist about an hour south of town. The moment I saw it, I knew it was what I've been looking for. I had another hutch that you might remember that I painted a charcoal color a couple years ago. Though I absolutely loved it, it was a little small for the space. I started looking occasionally on Craigslist and one day this beauty popped up.
When a friend of mine heard where I was going to pick it up, she volunteered to come with me. When we saw the resident's home, we were really glad to have each other! It was a really shady part of town (to say the least).
The biggest issue was that this poor thing was missing a drawer.
There are a lot of creative things that can be done.
But the more I thought about it, the more I knew I just needed the drawers for sufficient storage.
I told my neighbor about my dilemma and he took it to his cabinet shop and had a guy whip a match up for me in less than a 1/2 hour.
It's so nice to know people in all the right places!
Another wood working friend of mine who is super amazing at building furniture had me pick up a piece of maple and showed me how to make the drawer front within an hour.
I completely love how it turned out. Can you even tell that it wasn't there to begin with?
Go ahead, guess which one is the new drawer!
I had painted the entire hutch in Country Chic Paint's Dark Roast which is such a dark brown that it's almost black (LOVE this color!!!) a few months back and now I was ready to paint the drawers to match.
I bought these wonderful drawer pulls at Hobby Lobby. They were on a 1/2 price sale when I needed them which turned out perfect for me.
I love all the details of this piece. AND I love how the distressing brings them out.
I wanted to share the matching table and chairs, but they are still being re-finished, so I will have to share them another time.
I think hutches are my favorite makeover and piece of furniture to style.
I'm in love with how it turned out!!
